About Net Savoir
Hi, I’m Ange, editor behind Net Savoir. Thanks for stopping by this corner of the net. I hope you’re enjoying the articles here! I just thought I’d say a few words about the website and what Net Savoir is trying to achieve.
About the site
This website aims to deliver informative, well-researched material to an intelligent audience. Most of the readers are educated, computer-savvy individuals and read this blog to stay abreast of trends, new ideas, novel gadgets and intellectual debate. Ideally, this should give you some interesting stuff to discuss with other like-minded people, for example, at a dinner party (I know you secretly have a life away from computers).
Many internet users are interested in learning how they can do things better. Some readers are also interested in internet trends and patterns.
The types of articles you’ll find here will include: hard news stories, feature articles, editorial opinion, satire, educational material and essays debating a point. There will also be a sprinkling of haiku, limericks, rants, randomness, apps, gadgets, how-to guides and neat ideas.
The big topics discussed are internet security, social networking, intellectual property rights and critical media analysis. They are all pretty vital subjects in today’s world of web 2.0 internet communication.
Net Savoir aims to:
- make people think outside the square in relation to internet communication
- educate people on internet issues
- ensure younger people engage in critical thinking by analysing everything they read online
- cultivate readers who care about online safety.
Why WordPress.com?
I used to run a WordPress blog and Joomla CMS with two different hosting providers. Through some chronic bad luck it turned out that I had problems with both hosting providers at about the same time (one which involved me losing my domain as they were also a registrar). The Joomla experience was enough for me to decide WordPress would almost always be sufficient for my needs, while the hosting experiences made me seriously doubt the reliability of web hosts in general. I can’t rely on my home internet access, so I’m not going to run my own server. In the end, I figured that WordPress.com offers most of what I need and if I want to I can pay for extra features.
Simple answer: I trust wordpress.com and I no longer trust other options.
